After 11 years on TV, The Big Bang Theory has announced that the series will come to an end with season 12 next year.
On August 22, Warner Bros. Television revealed that the comedy’s 12th season will be their last, and of course, it broke the hearts of many fans.
The finale will be out in May next year. As the series comes to its end, The Big Bang Theory will have an astounding 279 episodes!
But fans, of course, would want more of the main characters. The heartbreaking news would mean that the rest of the years would be spent on reruns! Many people hope that the show would reconsider, but it won’t happen because of Jim Parsons.
In a joint statement, Chuck Lorre Productions and WBTV said:
“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons.
We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”
Kaley Cuoco, the actress who plays Penny, said:
“This ride has been a dream come true and as life-changing as it gets. No matter when it was going to end, my heart would have always been broken in two. Drowning in tears, we promise to bring you the best season yet.
To the fans, our crew, families, Chuck Lorre, Warner Brothers, CBS, and everyone who has supported us for so many years, thank you. We are going out with a bang.”
Sources say that Jim Parsons was the reason behind the end of the decade-long show. According to Entertainment Weekly, Parsons was ready to retire Dr. Sheldon Cooper with the next year’s season finale.
If he had agreed to stay for additional two years, he would have got $50 million, as every cast member makes up to $1 million per episode.
