The Iowa farm that hired the suspected killer of Mollie Tibbetts claimed that the illegal immigrant was given the clean chit under the government’s background check (vetting system) for migrant workers.
The accused, Christian Rivera, 24, is charged with first-degree murder. The authorities said that he was in the United States illegally and was being held on a Federal Immigration Detainer.

However, Yarrabee Farms, where migrants, especially Mexican nationals had worked previously, said that Rivera’s status had been checked with the Department of Homeland Security’s E-verify website.
He was charged with first-degree murder after leading the cops to the cornfield where he dumped Mollie’s body after attacking her on 18 July, in Iowa.
Rivera, who hails from Guayabillo in Guerrero, Mexico, is in the US illegally for the past 5-7 years, reportedly followed Mollie in his Chevy Malibu.
He attacked Mollie after she threatened to call the cops unless left her alone. The cops identified him, thanks to the surveillance footage retrieved in the last couple of weeks from a nearby home.
The video showed Rivera following Mollie in his car and she runs ahead of him. However, it is still not clear how Mollie died.
Rivera worked for Yarrabee Farms and they have denied hiring illegal immigrants. They said that the family-run business would be cooperating fully with the authorities during the Tibbett’s investigation.
They said that Rivera had been working at the farm for the past four years and was vetted through the government’s E-Verify system. They said that he was an employee of good standards.
